Gender Inequality- The ‘UNSEEN’ truth of society

“Stop crying, Aryan! Boys don’t cry.
Look, a ‘FEMALE’ driver driving that giant bus!
O’ God! That man doesn’t have self-respect. He is living as a Jamai-Raja. “

These are some short but real highlights likely to be seen around. A bitter reality, howling and swirling in our society. Gender Inequality- The ‘UNSEEN’ truth of society. Although we do have been granted with equality laws, but just give a thought- “Do we really mean them, intrinsically?” Sigh! Just empirically. Common folks failed to respect and adhere these two 1words- “G.E.N.D.E.R  E.Q.U.A.L.I.T.Y”. Some people though started getting revolutionized in building up a gap between both genders by treating them naturally equal i.e. laid more emphasize on a category- “Not special”. While some people are still rotting in the ancient system of society.
Let’s see, what does ‘Gender Equality’ exactly mean? In simple words as per me, equal status and treatment in society. No discrimination based on gender! This is a serious and one of the crucial social issues that needs to get uprooted completely as soon as possible.

Gender Equality = Same status + Same treatment

Quick! Catch your brilliant mind like parachutes. Get ready for a takeoff with me! Time to explore, inspecting and scrutinizing some of our realistic societal instances-

  • A girl after marriage-
  1. Had to leave her home. Struggle for getting adjusted in suddenly newly introduced house.
  2. Lost her identity by not only adopting her husband’s surname but infact, change wholly her name.
  • A boy is pressurized to study well to earn best in future so as to nurture his future wife and family.
  • A Male Thela Wala is usually seen yelling in streets- “Buy tomato, brinjal, onion for Rs10/kg!”
  • Women are not allowed to attend the funeral but, a man can.

Stated above are some of the commonly seen insights in atleast every colony to colony or within reach of every household to household. Now, let’s look it as in an interesting way. Flip the instances contrastingly. I bet, it will blow your mind off or make you laugh the loudest and hardest as ever. Let’s flip-flop and SWAP the experiences mentioned—

  • A girl boy after marriage—
  1. Had to leave his home and parents. Struggle to get adjusted in his new house.
  2. His parents are supposed to pay the other family, a dowry.
  • Boy before marriage will be identified as Naveesh Kaul and after marriage manipulated to Naveesh Zutshi or even Saashwat Zutshi.  Got a new identity wholly! Congratulations!
  • A boy girl is forced to study at best for getting best jobs so that could nurture her husband and family as well in future.
  • Thela Wala will be a Man Woman yelling in streets- “Buy tomato, brinjal, onion for Rs10/kg!”
  • Woman Man is supposed to stay at home while man women will attend the funeral.

Equal Proportion- An utter need!

These are something which are even though common, but still prove to be uncommon or rather say ‘unseen’ in society. Aren’t we ignoring these small but crucial discrimination scenario? We even cannot dare to imagine such kind of tremendous upheaval changes. Happening in reality is just like this world suddenly becomes upside down. Not more than a serial bomb blast, I guess! Right? That one man who even give a try to imagine, will be called nothing more than an ‘Insane’ by society itself because we got a zombie habit of following the traits of ‘Societal- Prospective Views’ foolhardily. We resist changes. What’s wrong in living with the laws for a man? It is his choice. Who is this system to decide what he should rather do? Is living with his laws is losing the self-identity,dignity or self-respect? If it is so, then, every married girl who lives with her laws has no self-respect. No value of their self-respect?Can’t we treat everyone as equal beings? Think equal!

We are those pity human-beings who are spoon feeders as we got fed with the non-logical norms and system of society. We all are sadly trapped very creatively, effectively and cleverly by this “Societal System”. System which enforces us to think that having a girl child is a weakness or a loss for parents. Why? Because system is so designed that a girl after marriage had to leave her parents alone and obviously who wants to be alone and that too in their older age. This is a bane result of the cause. We sit in a lap of society, got nurtured by it since from our introduction to this planet, got entangled in its complex web. It is said- “We took birth in society, live in society and have to grow with society” but “Society forget to grow with time”.
Inequality outspread its roots in corporate sector also. Situation is worse as some companies pay less to women than men even though possessing equal position and performing equal work. A woman is tagged as “Demanding fellow” if asks for a higher salary and If man do the same thing? He is called as a “Deserved fellow”. A famous IT Company Microsoft pay more to the male employees than female. For example, male directors reported making and average of $168,769 per year and women reported $163,410 per year. Microsoft’s CEO Nadella was also criticized over his comments at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women saying- “Women should not ask for the raises, but rather have faith in the system.”

untitled4Why do we say that only boys are not supposed to cry? What about girls? Do only girls embed with emotions? Or allowed to show them? C’mon thinkers just give a second and think. Boys are too a normal human being, having emotions. They too have their individual right to show and we term girl as a “crying beings”.b
Our eyes usually bulge out while seeing a female Thele Wala. Why? Because it becomes our natural stereotype that female Thele Wala cannot exists. Few years ago, a Female started her job as a taxi driver and news media was overflowed with such news showing with big exclamation mark. Isn’t a sign of gender inequality? For sure, it is. Why act so special for them? They are doing the same job as the men do.

These all can be termed as ‘Unseen’ truths because even though commonly seen by almost everyone but still we usually ignore them, tick them as unseen.

Where the point comes about changing one’s identity? Does marriage gives a free license to change YOUR IDENTITY, lose your id proof? Yes, it does seem so but only in case of women. What about man? Pretty luck, eh? That’s a raw case of gender inequality. Also, why to impose responsibility on boys for nurturing their family? Why not give them a choice to choose their best interesting career which might not ‘earn’ them enough. Can’t we say- “No problem boy, if you don’t want to go for a job or study. Your (future) wife will do.”
Such small things meant a lot and will one day, integrate together result into tremendous wonderful positive change, for sure. Instances mentioned are just a trailer of a whole conspirative movie whose director is the ‘Societal system’. If we analyze consciously and profoundly for even just a single day, we will be piled with uncountable instances where gender inequality can easily be acknowledged. Here also counts STEREOTYPIC BEHAVIOUR. Gender inequality also relates with it. How? We people believe that women are meant for cooking and thus if a man loves to cook many doubtful eyes eyed him. Tremendous reactions by this puppet society and in a result that man tagged as “A Man without Self-Respect”.

Have you ever gave a thought that what could be the origin of these traditions and system of society? Curious? Let’s imagine a story and find out.

Long years ago, let’s take an era of our native people. For every process, there is an initiation. An initiation for a cause. That time too, the cause is to live up their life for survival. Accompanied by many needs in terms of food and shelter. One day they thought that why not we divide our work so that the needs could be fulfilled effectively and attentively. Somebody must be there to stay at home, concentrating on household work while the left must work outside, hunting and seeking shelter. All then agreed! Then ‘casually’ it was decided (no-logic) that man will work for outside while woman will focus on household work. Since that time we started thinking the same and follow them. We become stereotype of this categorization of work and follow them recklessly.

Hold, Release and Move up (Change) to the next rung. If one person changes, that may change another person and thus a chain continues, resulting into a global changing network and finally, our nation and then, this world. ‪#‎Dream
